I Didn't Know Daniel Pearl
-- Mike Wilkerson
I am not a professional
reporter working for an internationally renowned news publication.
I don't have any ties to New York other than it's a city in the country
in which I live. My first, or last name had nothing to do with Daniel
Pearl.
I didn't know Daniel
Pearl, but I too am a creative someone, living in the the United States,
creating something that others see on a regular basis, and I want you to
remember Daniel Pearl.
Never forget this was
not only a well-known reporter, a man, a jew, but he was first and
foremost, a person.
I want you to remember
what he now represents to the way you think about being a person.
The pearl is one of the
fantastic items in nature. It is created in what in lieu of how
long pearls "last" a relatively short time, but something that truly
lasts forever. I would venture a guess, that in his terrible, only
somewhat comprehensible hate-driven death, he too will live on forever,
and will provide an example of how important freedom and free-thought is.
I didn't know Daniel
Pearl, but I now understand how important my "voice" is, can be, and will
be when it becomes "a pearl" when I am long gone.
Thank you Daniel.
